Close look at a dragonfly face

Saturday morning at Frank Schwartz Water and Garden Creations, there were so many flowers and insects to photograph that I'm still editing them today. Before I get around to choosing some favorite "artsy" flower shots to display, I'm going to post one dragonfly pic that I liked for two reasons. The first version is a cropped rendition, showing lots of detail in the head and thorax. Look at the fuzzy face and the multi-faceted compound eyes!

Below is the full image, with an interesting mix of shapes of the plants and the dragon. I think they "play well together".

  1. Not for the first time, I respond to one of your images with a "Wow!"

  2. I wish the first photo was more of a close-up; I'm having a hard time seeing the cellular structure.

    1. Oh, a wise guy, eh? ;<) Next time I'll bring a can of chlorofluorocarbon and a microscope. :-)

  3. What an array of photos since my last visit! It could be an exhibit of your many skills.
Too bad the insect rescue was not successful.
The animated frog was a hit, here in NY!

    1. Glad you could return for a visit! That particular dragonfly may not have made it, but there were a lot of successful, "happy" creatures in that little environment. And none of them bit me (as far as I know)!
